Dr Carmichael (Jack Watling), Dr Fellows-Smith (Bill Fraser) and Dr Hill (Richard Murdoch) have been in practice at the Old Chapterhouse Surgery, Mitrebury, for over 35 years.
Persuaded that it's time for them to retire, they agree to hand over the practice to younger doctors.
The new doctors are Dr Fay Liston (Victoria Burgoyne) and Dr Lucy Drake (Lesley Duff).
They set out to "improve" the practice, with the help of gynaecolagist Liz Arkdale (Bridget Armstrong).
