Gary returns from a skiing holiday with Yvonne. Back in wartime London, he upsets Mrs Bloss. Stella is planning a New Year's Eve party and it doesn't look as if Ron is invited.

Gary's new shop is doing well. This depresses Yvonne, who's still out of work. Ron is also depressed, because of his marital problems. Yvonne gets an interview for a new job. Gary makes a trip to a bus garage and comes back with interesting news for PC Deadman.

Ron's problems continue to get worse. Both of Gary's relationships seem to be going well, though he isn't entirely convinced. Reg Deadman is spending a lot of time down in the cellar of the Royal Oak, making a present for his new-found son Frankie.

Pheobe's orphaned cousins have come to stay at the Royal Oak. Gary is persuaded to help to entertain them. Ron has left Stella and moved in with Gary and Yvonne. Gary begins to think this isn't such a good idea.

Back at the Royal Oak, Gary has a visit from George Formby, who wants to record one of "Gary's" songs. Gary isn't sure that this is a good idea, particularly since he can't stand George Formby's records!
