Arkwright's old washing machine is a museum piece. Gladys Emmanuel insists that he buys a new one. Arkwright has to think of a way of meeting her wishes without spending too much money.

2: The Reluctant Traveller (8 Mar 81)
Nurse Gladys Emmanuel wants Arkwright to take her to a hotel for the night. Arkwright, who hasn't spent a night away from the shop sonce 1957, reluctantly agrees. Gladys is surprised to discover that the hotel is only a few streets away from the shop. Then Arkright has problems with a troublesome money belt.

3: Fig Biscuits And Inspirational Toilet Rolls (15 Mar 81)
Arkwright decides that his stock of fig biscuits isn't selling quickly enough, so he launches a 'special promotion'. He's also managed to get himself lumbered with a consignment of toilet rolls with "inspirational" messages printed on them.

4: The New Suit (22 Mar 81)
Nurse Gladys Emmanuel decides that it's time Arkwright bought himself a new suit.

5: Arkwright's Mobile Store (29 Mar 81)
Arkwright has bought a broken down ice cream van. He wants to convert it into a "mobile store" so that he can convince Nurse Gladys Emmanuel that he's keen to expand his business.

6: Shedding At The Wedding (5 Apr 81)
Arkwright is going to a wedding with Nurse Gladys Emmanuel. His suit smells very strongly of mothballs, so Gladys insists that he hangs it out of the car window to get rid of the smell. Unfortunately, he loses his trousers and has to attend the wedding in a rather strange outfit.

7: St Albert's Day (19 Apr 81)
Arkwright suspects a foreign visitor of shoplifting. In an attempt to get hold of the man's jacket so that Granville can search the pockets, Arkwright invents a new Saint's day.
