Comedy A-Z Pages:
After her TV debut on the talent show New Faces, Victoria Wood spent the following six or seven years making occassional guest appearances in other people's shows.
In 1979, she wrote and starred in an award-winning TV drama, Talent. Her co-star in that production was Julie Walters.
In January 1981, the pair again appeared together in what was originally intended as a one-off special, Two Creatures Great And Small. This was considered to be successful enough for Granada to commission a seven-part series, Wood And Walters, which was transmitted early in the following year.
A mixture of sketches and comic songs, this programme helped to develop many of the elements which made Victoria Wood's later BBC Television series, As Seen On TV, so successful.
